Electric dryer: the motor and controls can run while the heater lacks the full paired supply. A recently installed dryer that has never heated points first to installation or supply verification, not a guessed heater part.
Gas dryer: the motor and controls can run while gas heat is unavailable. A closed supply after installation is different from an internal ignition fault, and a gas odor is an emergency rather than a repair test.
Either type: Air, Fluff, cool-down and some Eco behavior can feel cold by design. Confirm the exact model's heated cycle before treating the symptom as a fault.
Any warmth: route to drying time, load and airflow checks. Completely cold on every approved heated cycle: record the clues below and request diagnosis if the safe external checks do not resolve it.

Safe External Checks Before Requesting Service

Confirm that the chosen cycle is supposed to heat. Check the exact model manual for Air, Eco, Steam and cool-down behavior.
Note whether the dryer has ever heated in this location and whether it was recently installed, moved or had its cord, outlet, vent or gas connection changed.
Clean the removable lint filter and reinstall it. Do not operate the dryer without the filter.

A gas dryer can use electricity for the motor and controls while gas provides the heat. A new or recently moved installation may have an unavailable gas supply even though the drum turns.

Check only what the exact manual makes safely visible. Do not disconnect or loosen the gas line, search for a leak with a flame, or open the burner area. If the supply is confirmed and the dryer remains cold, request service. If you smell gas, do not operate switches or restart the dryer; leave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services.

Where Airflow Fits Into a No-Heat Complaint

Restricted exhaust can trap heat and moisture, lengthen drying, trigger over-temperature protection or cause a covered dryer to reduce heat. It is especially relevant when the dryer feels warm, the room becomes humid, the cabinet becomes unusually hot or the exterior airflow is weak.

A completely cold dryer may still have an airflow problem, but a vent observation does not prove the heater, fuse or thermostat has failed. Do not run loads with the vent removed as a generic test. The outward symptom does not identify which part should be replaced. A safety device may have opened because of another condition, so both the failed circuit and the cause need to be checked.
