Oven Not Heating to the Correct Temperature: Common Causes

An oven that does not match the selected temperature may have a faulty temperature sensor, inaccurate calibration, weak heating element, failing gas igniter, damaged control board, or airflow problem.

Some temperature variation is normal because ovens cycle the heat on and off. However, if food consistently cooks too slowly, burns, remains raw, or requires a much higher setting than the recipe recommends, the oven should be checked.

How Accurate Should an Oven Be?

An oven does not maintain one exact temperature continuously.
